Whatever Happened to Apeus Foredeckous?

Have you seen him lately? I sure haven't and it's been way too long. When I was younger and hanging around the yacht club waiting for my dad to finish racing, every once in a while some nut head would put on an ape mask and run the foredeck and hang upside down on the whisker pole as they passed the St. Francis. Usually on a big boat with a huge spinnaker, it was the stuff of legends... his picture would appear in Latitude 38 and some writter with too much time on his hands would fabricate a story about the type of person with ape-like strength and stamina it took it be a serious foredeck guy on a race boat on SF Bay. Everybody had a good laugh. I wonder whatever happened to him. All you "older" Bay Area Sailboat racers know exactly what I'm talking about...

Any comments?

Everybody Knows What The Little Pink Box Means

DONUTS!!! ...and what's with the spelling here? Donuts vs. Doughnuts... how do you spell it?

You walk into the office or in my case the teacher's lounge and there it is... the little pink box.
You know dam well it's full of a varity of sugur encrusted, sweet, greezy doughnuts and you know better... but you walk over just to take a look. Sure enough one of your favorites is right there ripe for the picking. Yes, I have a problem. I'm a donut junkie. I could eat 4 at one sitting with very little remorse and even go back for more later, if they are still there. But that could explain why I've ballooned up to 230 pounds... could also be the weight training. It's probably a combination there of. Being 6'5" and weighing 230 sounds intimidating... good. Anyway, being a PE teacher is awesome, I get the exercise I need and if I'd just take my diet seriously I'd probably look a lot better. So, my New Year's resolution is not to avoid donuts... that's impossible. 2 hours of cardio a day plus at least one meal has to be a salad. My friend Brad said something a while back that has always stuck in my head, "Can't get enough leaves in your diet." And I'm going to try the 5 meal a day concept and see how it works. Smaller meals throughout the day with mostly organic fruits, veggies, high in fiber, relatively low in fat with a lot of water each day. Plus, more variety in the meat department. To quote Daniele, "If God didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them out of meat." blink, blink.
Oh, and a few less beers until sailing season starts. I'm not sure how I'm going to deal with no sugar or half and half in my coffee, but I feel that is a stumbling block for me as well. And no pepperoni on pizza might be a problem. And cutting down on cheese for that matter... yikes.

Life is too short when you eat bad food.

I know in my heart this is all about commitment to a healthy lifestyle, but when push comes to shove or push comes to donuts I'm a sucker for the rush. I understand the whole cop + coffee + doughnut thing now. What a burst of energy, but it sure does suck when it fades. Being as big as I am and being grumpy is not a good combo. Denial of the little pink box is retarded. But giving into it's enticing magic is also.
I'm going to start a support group with this blog. T-shirts that read, "Don't feed me Doughnuts". It'll have a picture of an open little pink box with an "X" though it.

as always, your comments are welcomed.
